So, disclaimer, I hate these things… but I know I’ll have to write one at some point, so here we go…

I was born in Northwest England in the mid 1980s, and have kind of rattled around here since. Like many quiet nerd kids back then, I survived school, had much more fun in college, and then proceeded to waste my web design qualification (can you tell?) by working in retail for years, before ending up in a merchandising/shop fitting job where I was away for weeks at a time living in hotels… perfect time to start dabbling with blogging and writing, yeah?

I landed a gig for gaming website The Well Red Mage (now The Pixels) in 2018, and am still a member to this day. After writing a load of reviews over there, I was incredibly lucky to join the ARC team for Skullgate Media’s Under New Suns anthology, which was also one of my first introductions to indie authors and publishing. The authors in there blew my mind with their variety and imagination (it’s really weird that I can now count most of these rockstars as my friends…), and it was crazy to me when I was invited to join them on the sequel, In the Wake of the Kraken.

It’s been so much fun from there, I’ve had short stories in various anthologies, the last being a short story called The Artificer’s End, in End of the World Press’s Interesting Times anthology.

I’ve always wanted to write a novel, and my first attempt was in maybe 2000 or so (it was terrible, I basically plagiarised Final Fantasy VII and VIII) and it ended up in the bin. Along with four or five other ideas over the years, my most recent being sci-fi military/cyberpunk story that just turned into scenes held together with plot holes.

It was The Artificer’s End that provided the story for a novel in the end, and this became The Urchin, The Artist and The Abomination. The original premise was “aren’t mechanical cyborgs cool”, and the idea grew from there, with the first scene I dreamed up being the end…
